Senior Port Engineer 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Schedule, coordinate, and perform flow of work based on customer orders, establish priorities and availability of personnel, equipment, and resources. Keep records of maintenance preformed, hours used, fuel burned, and report to different funding agencies. Schedule routine maintenance of tugs and barges. Manage oil analysis program. Coordinate the purchasing of parts and services for repair and maintenance projects. Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards. Perform emergency repairs on vessels as required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of tugs and barge maintenance systems and equipment.
  • Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers.
  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port.
  • Computer skills: Word and Excel
WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience maintaining tugs and barges.
  • 5 years at sea as a licensed Marine Engineer on tugs and/or barges or equivalent military experience.
  • Shoreside experience as a Port Engineer/Technical Superintendent preferred, willing to consider those with Classification Society experience as well, will train those coming straight from sailing.
EDUCATION / TRAINING:
  • BS in Marine Engineering preferred but NOT required; if no degree, ten years of experience as a USCG licensed Marine Engineer required in place of degree
  • Experience with fleet management systems (ABS NS5, etc) 
  • Shipyard experience preferred
  • Strong communication and hands-on work ethic
  • Travel estimated at around 50% 
  • Must be able to travel to Canada for short stints
